Local police stations take precautions
Local police stations have masks, sanitisers and gloves while serving community members.
Both police stations in Kempton Park have introduced measures to keep both the public and officers safe from Covid-19.
Kempton Park Police Station has set up a station outside the customer service centre where people can get documents certified.
“This was done so people don’t have to stand in queues for long,” said Sgt Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
“People can still certify documents inside. There is also a different queue for those who want to open cases.
“We adhere to the national call to try and prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
“We have a control book where we take details of people entering the station. They fill in their names and ID numbers. This is to help trace people should there be anyone who tests positive for Covid-19 at the station,” explained Ditshego.

“We have also heeded the call of Gauteng MEC for safety Faith Mazibuko to have CPF members and volunteers at the station to help with sanitising visitors.”
During Express’ visit last week police officers and CPF members were seen wearing gloves and masks, assisting with hand-sanitising.
Posters and signs with safety tips have also been put up.
Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, said the holding cells were sanitised twice a day.
Mtshali and Dipuo said officers in the field were also given gloves and hand sanitisers.
Sgt Johanna Madiga, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, said their officers in the field have gloves, sanitisers and others masks.
“We have also postponed meetings with CPF members and others until further notice,” said Madiga.
“Sanitisers, gloves and masks were made available for members in the charge office and in the field. Officers at the station who have direct contact with people were also provided with enough resources.
“We are trying all we can to ensure we provide services to the community and also keeping in mind to always practice safety measures to stop the spread of the virus.”
