Food relief in place for needy families as Government sets up food banks
The food delivered is approved by the SABS and verified by qualified inspectors.
Acting social development MEC Panyaza Lesufi received several loads of emergency food relief at a central warehouse to be distributed to all the regional food banks in Gauteng.
The location of the central warehouse has not been identified.
Beneficiaries who will receive food are the elderly, homeless, citizens who earn a combined household income of R3 600, Sassa recipients, the disabled, child welfare and military veteran grant recipients.
The food delivered is approved by the SABS and verified by qualified inspectors.
Food hampers to be delivered to the needy households around the province consist of non-perishable food items, such as tea bags, sugar and rice.
Lesufi appreciates the social partners who made it all possible to donate to the underprivileged.
“We are overwhelmed by the social partners who made contributions. Through their donations, we have been able to accomplish our goals and continue working towards assisting the needy households and individuals,” said Lesufi.
