Qualified engineer from Birchleigh North follows his music passion
The former Norkem Park High School learner said his passion for making music started a long time ago.
While music was running hot in his veins, a Birchleigh North hip-hop artist decided to rather take the safer route – to study first.
Today Acillionaire, born as Sithembiso Michael Nkabinde, has a mechanical engineering diploma from Tshwane University of Technology, which he received cum laude. He graduated at the top of his class.
The former Norkem Park High School learner, who celebrated his 26th birthday on April 1, said his passion for making music started a long time ago.
He always wanted to be in music, but after high school decided on taking a more traditional and safe career path. However, the love for music always remained.
His influences for the music he makes are varied from piano, Gqom, hip-hop and house to RnB, jazz and gospel.
“I am inspired by all types of music,” said Acillionaire.
As an independent part-time artist, he says the hardest part is that you have to play every role, from getting your music to radio, getting gigs at clubs, ensuring you have a digital footprint and admin, such as registering music with various entities.
“Not having a label to manage you is hard, but I enjoy the learning I have to do as an independent artist,” said the planner in the construction industry.
And where does his name Acillionaire come from? The Greek warrior Achilles and his desire to live in opulence.
