Music duo donates to charity
Kempton Park's music duo donate to Thembisa based charity centre
Music duo Mandla Mtshali and Oscar Nyathi, popularly known as Malumz on Decks, donated food parcels to Tshepang Care Centre on March 26.
The centre, situated at Vusimuzi squatter camp in Thembisa, is a home to a number of vulnerable children from around the area.
During the lockdown, the duo extended their hand to the centre to help with essentials like food and detergents.
Mandla Mtshali, one half of the duo, said they have reached out to the centre over the past four years and it has been a group effort to help those in need.
“We are connected to them through my mother who goes to the same church with the lady who works at the centre,” said Mandla.
“We have been marketing the place on social media where we call on others to donate.
“When they see us on TV they send us messages of good faith.
“When we started working with them they were still operating in shacks, but now other companies and stakeholders have reached out to build them a nice shelter to continue their work,
“This matters to us because we also came from a community surrounded by such difficulties. We hope to restore hope to these children and encourage them to prosper.
“after all, their current situation is not their permanent one; they are young and filled with dreams and goals.”
Mtshali said they are reaching out not for publicity,
“It is about making a difference. We received a report from the centre to say the food we donated to them could feed 98 families within their surrounding settlement.”
He said they also encourage other celebrities to offer their time and resources to help the needy
“We appreciate the love and support from the community. Our message to them is to stay safe,” said Mandla.
