Thembisans urged to stay home during lockdown
Mokhoana added that the devastating effects of Covid-19 are going to be far reaching in the next month or two
The DA PR councillor in Ekurhuleni, Lucky Mokhoana, urges the people of Thembisa to stay indoors during lockdown.
“I recently took a drive around Thembisa South, from the CTM store all the way to eSangweni Taxi Rank and Limindlela Train Station,” he said.“I expected to see nearly empty streets and quiet neighbourhoods,” said Mokhoana.
He said the streets were abuzz with people, from children playing soccer on the streets to the elderly congregating and socialising in groups as if life is normal.
“However, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, life isn’t normal and people carrying on with their daily business as if everything is normal is definitely cause for concern,” said Mokhoana.
“As the National Ministry of Health has rightly stated, this is the calm before the storm and it is going to hit hard, especially among the poorest of the poor,” he said.
Mokhoana added that the devastating effects of Covid-19 are going to be far reaching in the next month or two.
He also explained that the DA in Ekurhuleni is deeply concerned about the well-being of the Thembisans.
“We are, therefore, pleading with residents to stick to social distancing guidelines as stipulated by the government. Most importantly, we would like to urge people to stay at home and wash their hands regularly,” he said.
He urged the residents of Thembisa to only leave their premises when absolutely necessary, for example when they are shopping for essential food items, visits to the clinics, to receive their pension money or to seek medical care.
Mokhoana also added that the DA cares about the welfare and well-being of the communities.
“We have absolute confidence in the people of Thembisa and the whole of Ekurhuleni at large. We would like to urge communities to abide by these guidelines to mitigate or help flatten the curve of Covid-19,” said Mokhoana.
