Duduza Clinic reopens after nurse tested positive for Covid-19

45 tests returned negative while 10 are still outstanding

Duduza Clinic was officially reopened on Wednesday last week following a brief closure on April 1 after a resident nurse tested positive for Covid-19.

According to Themba Gadebe, the metro’s spokesperson, the clinic was sanitised and deep cleaned during the period of closure and other interventions were also implemented to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.

“Two mobile clinics were deployed to the area to substitute services in the area. All 55 Duduza clinic staff were tested for Covid-19,” said Gadebe.

“To date, 45 tests have returned from the laboratory and all were negative. We are awaiting the outstanding 10 test results.

“The staff that have not received their tests results will remain in self-isolation until we receive confirmation of their results.”

Gadebe said mass testing took place on April 3 at the Duduza Customer Care Centre at mobile clinics. Community members that visited the clinic recently or experienced symptoms of the virus were allowed to get tested.

“We thank the community of Duduza for playing their part during the closure of the clinic. Let us all continue to stay indoors and observe the national lockdown,” said executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Mzwandile Masina.

Gadebe said the nurse who tested positive for Covid-19 is still under self-quarantine and is being monitored by medical personnel on an ongoing basis.

“Mayor Masina and the City wish her a speedy recovery,” said Gadebe.
