Over 2 000 vehicles stopped during Easter weekend operations

Nearly 900 traffic fines were issued

Nearly 900 traffic fines were issued by Ekurhuleni Metro Police over the Easter weekend, from April 9-13.

According to Kobeli Mokheseng, metro police spokesperson, 20 roving and static roadblocks were staged in the East, South and North of the City, where 2001 vehicles were stopped.

During the operations 880 traffic fines were issued for moving violations, defects and documentation (not in possession or failing to carry driver’s licence/professional drivers permit). Eleven motorists were arrested for driving while intoxicated and seven unroadworthy motor vehicles were discontinued from operating on public roads.

One fatal accident took place on April 12 in Alberton at around 7.30pm where a male passenger died after the light delivery vehicle he travelled overturned on JG Strijdom Road.
