Vendor fears the worst as lockdown continues

Essential vendors worry about possible stock price spikes.

It was business as usual for vendor Mohale Mamanyoha from Winnie Mandela Extensions, but he fears suppliers’ prices can spike during lockdown.

Mamanyoha says he hasn’t seen a decline in his income by selling peanuts, but he has noticed the expenditure line has declined.

“I have a permit, because as vendors, selling becomes our only source of income and its a daily duty to wake up and sell.

“This lockdown, should it prolong, will affect us deeply because prices keep increasing because already a lot is spent to buy things that were supposed to be cheap.

“One more week, then people will go on a rampage, breaking and looting every tuck shop and liquor outlet, supermarket and even garages – not to mention ATM bombings,” said Mamanyoha.
