Elderly people in Jiyane section,Thembisa, were given food parcels on April 13 by Victoria Yende, the founder of Tenth Commandment Community Centre.
On April 13, Victoria Yende, the founder of Tenth Commandment Community Care Centre, donated food parcels to the elderly people from Jiyane section in Thembisa. The rehabilitation centre was established in 2013.
“I started this centre because I used to feel sad when I saw young people wasting their lives on alcohol and drugs.
“During this lockdown, I decided to give back with the little that we have to the elderly people of Jiyane,” she said.
She said that there were many people who did not have food or money to buy food, adding that she decided to start giving food to the elderly because they were the most vulnerable.

“I started with old people because they are the pillars of our homes. This is me lending a helping hand to those who need it during this difficult time,” said Yende.
She also mentioned that she will also be giving food parcels to those who couldn’t make ends meet to try and alleviate crime.
“The reason we decided to give food parcels is to try stop people from going out to steal to be able to buy food.
“The organisation is running because of other people. If they donate plenty of food parcels to us it is only human to share it with those who are struggling during this trying time.
“The smile on the grannies’ faces when they got their food parcels made me happy I could help. To know that I am helping others the way we are also being helped brings joy to us as an organisation,” concluded Yende.
