Local supermarket lends helping hand to 100 families

Local supermarket donates essentials to 100 families of Ivory Park during the lockdown.

Sizabantu Supermarket in Ivory Park, Goniwe section, donated food packages to at least 100 Ivory Park families on April 16.

Abdisamed Ahmed, owner of the supermarket encouraged other businesses to join in helping those in difficult situations.

“We have to come together to succeed, the fortunate must help the poor and in return we all win. It is even in our bible that we help each other,” said Ahmed.

“The surrounding community has been good to us since the beginning of business years ago. We have strong connection with them,” said Ahmed.

Abdirizak Aden Hassan, supermarket manager, said they have been helping the community through donations even in previous years.

“We understand that the lockdown has its effects on everyone. We have packaged mealie meal, a pack of sugar, tin beans and fish, cooking oil, and other essential food supplies,

“In our previous donation in 2018, we donated blankets, food, and clothes to orphanages and schools,” said Hassan.

Nozicelo Matiwane, community member, was overjoyed at the donation and wished the the supermarket owners more success in the future.

“We are joyous to have been the chosen ones to receive these packages. We are in desperate times and any assistance is better than having nothing at all,” said Matiwane.

“We can survive for a week or two with with such donations, in addition to with what we had already.”
