Cuban Medical Brigade goes into quarantine after late-night arrival

Once this process is concluded, President Cyril Ramaphosa and other ministers will formally welcome the brigade to the country.

The 217-strong Cuban Medical Brigade touched down in South Africa in the early hours of Monday morning.

Before their departure from Cuba, the brigade members had been placed in quarantine to ensure they minimise any form of exposure prior to coming to South Africa. This is despite the fact that Cuba is one of the countries where the reported Covid-19 infection rate remains minimal.

South Africa has taken an additional step in line with its own lockdown rules. This team will be put in precautionary quarantine as they await their results. This period will be used to fully induct them into the South African environment and the various provinces they will be deployed to.

Once this process is concluded, President Cyril Ramaphosa and other ministers will formally welcome the brigade to the country.
