Hollywoodbets jump in with food parcels

Additionally, 350 face masks were also distributed among the recipients.

On April 29 and 30, Hollywoodbets once again launched a relief effort to assist the most vulnerable communities during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The leading bookmaker teamed up with its soccer brand ambassadors, soccer legends Brian Baloyi and Jerry Sikhosana.

Together with the Brian Baloyi Family Foundation, 200 families in need from Alexandra and Thembisa were identified and assisted with essential food parcels.

Additionally, 350 face masks were also distributed among the recipients.

The team met at Alex FM on the Wednesday and delivered 100 food buckets and 200 face masks to community members, while all the necessary safety precautions were taken.

The following day the team gathered at Thembisa Shukumani Sports Grounds before heading to Ivory Park where the Bafana Bafana players went door to door. They took the time to check in with the community as they delivered a further 100 food buckets and 150 face masks.

Hollywoodbets felt compelled to contribute on an economic level, given the current effects of the global pandemic. In doing so, the masks were purchased from a group of local women in Alexandra.

These enterprising women have started making masks to help generate an income for themselves and their families during the pandemic, as well as to assist their communities.

The food parcels distributed to families in Thembisa and Alexandra.

The Brian Baloyi Family Foundation was started in August 2018. The foundation’s main focus areas are sport, education and health. Baloyi was inspired to help people with their personal health after his wife fought, and won, a battle with cancer.

“I am very grateful that I got to give back to my community and thank you to Hollywoodbets as this would not have been possible without their help. This has been a great starting point for the Brian Baloyi Family Foundation and we look forward to what the future holds,” explained Baloyi.

“During this time, most South Africans are going through a difficult period and this is why Brian and Jerry wanted to do something to help. As a starting point they decided to visit their local townships and gave out food parcels and masks to families in need. We have always believed in giving back to our communities in which we operate with our Hollywoodbets My Community Programme – they are part of our Purple family.”

“It is important that we share our goodwill with those in dire need. We were also honoured to support our brand ambassadors. With the help of community leaders, we were able to identify 200 families whom they assisted and who got to enjoy magical memories with their soccer heroes during the handovers,” explained Wayde Dorkin, Hollywoodbets Soccer Brand Manager.
