Ivory Park church donates food parcels
Tabernacle Church of God in Christ senior pastor David Mohlake said over 300 families have benefited so far
Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Ivory Park Extension Two donated food parcels and continues to feed the needy.
The church is using its tithes and offerings money to fund the emergency food relief programme as the world battles with rising number of Covid-19 cases.
Reckson Mahori, communications director at the church, said over 200 families in Ivory Park, Thembisa and Ebony Park have benefited so far.

“At first we took our tide to pay our congregates food parcels since most of them couldn’t go to work.
“The church has always given. Every Monday and Wednesday we used to cook for people from church. We call it Lunch with Jesus. Now that they cannot come to eat, we buy food to deliver to them,” said Mohlake.
“As a church this was an eye-opener because we always thought we give to people by feeding them, but it was only those who were able to come here. We visited a family during lockdown where there was a guy who couldn’t walk.
“From 5pm when I passed to distribute food at other places he stood in the same spot till I returned at around 8pm, waiting for me. I realised although we reach out, there are those who need more, and we never knew,” said Mohlake.
“We call on all parties who would like to join us in doing this on a much larger scale to reach more people, maybe do it on a weekly or monthly basis,” said Mohlake.
Josas Mahote, a beneficiary, said he is grateful for the food parcels.
“I was injured in 2010 and only now started to earn my grant money since I am old enough to earn now. I haven’t received any support from anyone before.
“I would like to thank the church and its leadership for reaching out. These parcels will make a difference in my life,” said Mahote.
