PR councillor to tackle cemetery
They will shortly have an annual general meeting where a branch committee will be elected to represent and grow the DA in Ward 13.
The dire state of Mooifontein Cemetery is one of the issues being addressed by the DA proportional representative councillor (PR) for Ward 13, which includes Birch Acres, Chloorkop and part of Phomolong.
Clr Ilaria Di Siena was elected as PR councillor late last year.
Another issue in the ward she is addressing is an illegal tavern in Birch Acres which was temporarily shut down. She hopes to have it shut down permanently.
Illegal dumping and the erection of informal dwellings in Chloorkop are also on her radar.
What she enjoys most about being a councillor is working actively on the ground to support the development of communities, meeting people and representing council to the residents.
“I’ve always had a keen interest in politics and joined the DA in 2016. I was elected as the DA branch chair of Ward 18 (Edenvale) in November 2016 and was subsequently also elected as the Lethabong Constituency vice-chair for the DA Women’s Network (DAWN). I served in these roles until elected as a PR councillor.”
She also serves on two oversight committees, namely city planning (municipal courts and outdoor advertising) and gender, youth and persons with disabilities.
“I will be heading a campaign and meeting with officials to ensure greater by-law enforcement, particularly around the issue of illegal posters and billboards. I also hope to make meaningful input for the development of much-needed specialised interventions in schools for learners with special educational needs.”
Di Siena said the DA managed to grow the party in the ANC-controlled ward and passed the membership audit. They will shortly have an annual general meeting where a branch committee will be elected to represent and grow the DA in Ward 13.
