Taxis at Kempton Park Taxi Rank sanitised
Covid-19 flyers were also distributed to educate the commuters about the virus and how to keep safe.
The Volunteer Ministers Disaster Relief team sanitised and disinfected over 150 taxis on May 5 in Kempton Park Taxi Rank, Pretoria Road, to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Part of the team were Norkem Park residents Mordecai Ndlovu, Nelisa Va and Karabo Nkadimeng who volunteered to help the community amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The aim of the operation was to help eliminate the virus for those boarding the taxis as they were also at risk of virus transmission between home and work.
Covid-19 flyers were also distributed to educate the commuters about the virus and how to keep safe.
Sandile Hlayisi, public affairs director for the Volunteer Ministers, said the measures implemented were to protect the vehicles, drivers and passengers.
“As always, we are honoured to assist. As President Ramaphosa stated, we need to stay united and it is some of our contributions towards this,” said Hlayisi.
One of the volunteers Mordecai Ndlovu stated that he was delighted to be part of the team.
“Be the change you want to see.We want to be stellar examples of the everyday heroes of South Africa who are tackling this crisis head on,” said Ndlovu.
Moses Nkosi, a taxi driver, was pleased with the initiative and appreciated the team for making them a priority. “We are adhering to the Covid-19 regulations; however, we are happy to receive extra measures to protect us and the commuters from the virus,” said Nkosi.
