Pageant princess wants to give back more
Mannya said she has a group of young minds who share the same aspirations as she when it comes to pageants.
Millicent Mannya, a 21-year-old final-year BA Information Technology student at Richfield Graduate Institute of Technology and a beauty pageant model aims high.
She is a finalist for Miss Boksburg 2020 and Empress South Africa 2020.Mannya is a resilient, strong, caring, kind-hearted young lady always willing to give a helping hand. She believes in giving back to the community.
Mannya said she has a group of young minds who share the same aspirations as she when it comes to pageants.
“Through pageants I am able to reach places in the community I cannot access by my own. In return, I provide mentorship about everything pageant and encourage young women to keep academics in mind while giving back.”
She said: “I have been involved in pageantry since primary school. I appreciate all the knowledge and experience I have gained, but I have to say 2017 was the highlight of this career thus far.
“2017 was the year I won my first title which gave me the consistency, determination and willingness to pursue this hobby of mine,” adds Mannya.
“What led me to enter both Miss Boksburg 2020 and Empress South Africa 2020 is because I believe pageantry is not just about beauty, fame or status of being a title holder.
“It is more about building my self-confidence, challenging myself, deriving happiness while on the stage, and being social with other people of different cultures and traditions.
“Acquiring communication and leadership skills and hopefully being an inspiration to a young mind that anything is possible if you visualise it and give it to God so He can give it back to you,” said Mannya.
The 21-year-old expects to achieve a lot from pageantry and continues to work hard towards her goals.
“Pageants are there to gain new friends and introduce myself to a wider range of life experiences and community involvement, which is the best sides of pageantry.
“I am all about giving back and doing the right thing. I develop my confidence and abilities in many different fields to acquire different skills that are applicable in more than just a pageant setting.
“Pageantry has changed who I am. I see pageantry as a learning experience. The girls I competed with became family. We consider ourselves a sisterhood; we are each other’s support system and more.”
“Although I have not won every pageant, I always walk away with much more than just a crown and title. The crown and sash are just the highlights of the competition.
“An Oscar winner once said all dreams are valid, which means my dream are as valid as yours, and fortunately some dreams depend on others. My dream right now is to win Miss Boksburg 2020 and you can help me achieve this by sending an SMS with ?WIN Q26? to 47439 as many times as you wish,” she said.
