Two killed in four-vehicle accident on the N12
All four lanes were closed for traffic for the duration of the operation.
Two people were killed and another was critically injured when four vehicles collided on the N12 northbound near the Elands interchange in the City of Ekurhuleni on Thursday morning.
William Ntladi, spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni emergency services, said two bakkies and two trucks were involved in the crash. The wrecks were scattered across the entire freeway, bringing traffic to a complete standstill prior to it being diverted onto the N3 southbound.
Two men were killed instantly. A third patient was still trapped inside one of the bakkies, which was on its side.
The entrapped patient was extricated from the wreck and transported to Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital in Vosloorus. He sustained intense head and upper body injuries.
Both trucks crews escaped without obvious injuries, said Ntladi.

It is believed the two deceased patients were from the bakkies. The one bakkie was towing the other prior to the crash.
