Makhura: Covid-19 cases confirmed in Ivory Park
He warned that Ivory Park has been identified as one of the hot spots for non-compliance.
The Gauteng Premier David Makhura visited Busy Corner Mall in Ivory Park to assess compliance with Covid-19 regulations at shopping centre on May 13.
Makhura was accompanied by the MEC of Health in Gauteng, Dr Bandile Masuku, and the MMC of Health in the City of Johannesburg, Eunice Mgcina.
They visited malls across Gauteng to assess level four compliance of shop owners and shoppers. They also assessed over-pricing of food items and maintenance of food security standards.
Earlier that day they visited Soshanguve Mall before making another stop in Ivory Park. Testing and screening of Covid-19 were also conducted at the mall.
The premier said if mallgoers are found to be positive, the patient is contacted and isolated from the public. Hundreds of people waited their turn to screen and test at several malls visited.
Makhura noted that though some were following regulations, others in the area weren’t. He strongly warned the people of Ivory Park that they shouldn’t think Covid-19 is not a virus for the township people.
In addition, he said there are roughly 40 cases of coronavirus confirmed in the area.
“We are monitoring Ivory Park and Soshanguve closely. We don’t want Covid-19 to spread out of control in Ivory Park.
“If people don’t comply and the number of infections increase, we will localise a level five lockdown and make it difficult for people to move around,” Makhura said.
