Boyfriend in custody for alleged murder of his girlfriend

Police appeal to neighbours to be the eyes and ears of the police and report these incidents before it is too late.

Ivory Park police have arrested a 27-year-old man for the alleged murder of his girlfriend (23) in Kaalfontein, Midrand, on May 9.

Preliminary evidence revealed the couple had an argument earlier that day, which culminated in the assault of the deceased woman.

Upon the arrival of police at the address, the police found the woman lying on the floor with bruises to her body. Upon probing further, the officers discovered that the two had an argument and the suspect admitted to having assaulted the victim with a belt before leaving her to visit his family on the other side of the township.

It was on the basis of the interview and what they saw on the victim that it was determined that the suspect had a case to answer in connection with the woman’s death. The victim is originally from Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria.

The station commander of Ivory Park SAPS, Brig David Mbongeni Ngcobo, is deeply saddened by this incident and is appealing to anyone in an abusive relationship to seek help before it’s too late.

“The country may be in lockdown right now, but we encourage any victim of domestic violence or abuse to not suffer in silence and seek help straight away. The SAPS is here on a 24-hour basis,” said Ngcobo.

He appealed to neighbours to be the eyes and ears of the police and report these incidents before it is too late.
