Regulations kill feeding project in Kempton Park

Glen Marais Mr SA finalist Hannes van der Walt said it was a privilege to serve Kempton Park for three weeks.
May 5 marked the last day of contributing food parcels as part of the #ShineOn project, during which 22 tons of food was distributed to the needy.
“Thanks to #Shineon, 772 families received a parcel worth of R350. Altogether, 22 tons of food were delivered with an estimated value of R223 000 to relieve the plight of our local needy families.”
Hannes expressed his regret when he announced the end of the project.
“We are obligated to end this food project due to the new regulations implemented by government in connection with food parcel distribution.”
Hannes, his wife Natasha and Kempton Youth Development initiated the food drive at the start of the lockdown.
The donated goods were taken to a residence in Glen Marais where the items were sorted, packaged and delivered to beneficiaries’ doorstep. Children who have benefited from the ‘broodjieprojek’ in Kempton schools were also considered during this initiative.
