Man shot during armed robbery at Nic Meyer Centre on Elgin Road

The victims were transported to Arwyp.

A man was shot in his left leg on Thursday, following an armed robbery in which two suspects held the victim and his wife at gunpoint at the Nic Meyer Centre on Elgin Road.

Sgt Johanna Madiga, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, explained that the couple was sitting in their BMW, waiting for a friend to drop off a parcel in front of the pharmacy in the centre.

“A grey Toyota Yaris with a CA registration number drove in and two armed men jumped out. The front windows of the BMW were open.

“One suspect opened fire from the left side. The bullet went through the left front seat and exited through the back window.”

Madiga said the victim was forced out of his vehicle and was shot in the left leg and hit over the head with a firearm. The two suspects fled the scene in their car after stealing the victim’s iPhone and Rolex wrist watch.

The victims were transported to Arwyp.

Madiga said police believed the suspects were involved in previous Rolex robberies.

“Please ensure you are vigilant when wearing expensive jewellery or safeguard it in a safe at home.”
