Midrand Pixies need help to take care of needy children
Tlokotsi added that some parents/guardians are too focused on their challenges, distracting them from paying attention to their children
The Midrand Pixies Clubhouse, a newly registered non-profit company (NPC), asks for assistance in showing Covid-19 kindness to the children from #theSQUATTERS of Ivory Park Two.
Itumeleng Tlokotsi, founder of The Midrand Pixies Clubhouse, said: “The purpose of the NPC is for public benefits; we have an essential certificate. We have been operating since 2019 as a feeding scheme and tuition and support group for primary children who are from disadvantaged backgrounds.”
The Midrand Pixies Clubhouse assists children from disadvantage areas. Those who are from nearby primary schools and children who are not attending school due to circumstances.
“Our NPC also helps orphans, non-citizens and those who do not have birth certificates. We also have children who survive on door-to-door selling,” said Tlokotsi.
Tlokotsi said since the pandemic has taken over and has noticed how the children have been roaming the streets. She added that starvation took over households and no educational programmes are being done.
“Some children live with their grandparents who are not familiar with the latest technologies. Some households don’t have smartphones or TVs and internet is a challenge,” explained Tlokotsi.
Tlokotsi added that some parents/guardians are too focused on their challenges, distracting them from paying attention to their children. She also added that some parents/guardians have a challenge in understanding their children’s learning disabilities.
“This resulted in us having a dialogue with the parents/guardians to discuss the matter at hand and find ways to resolve the issue,” said Tlokotsi.
“After the discussion, we started an initiative that will keep the children off the streets.”
Tlokotsi added that the NPC strives to feed and home-school the children, but all their resources are not enough to last them long.
“We were provided a big enough area to accommodate social distancing, but since we will run out of goods soon we need help.”
Tlokotsi added that the donations could be in a form of stationery, food, masks, sanitisers, gloves or chairs. She said anything a child could need.
“This is a plea to find it in your heart to donate anything you possibly can, be it secondhand or new. We do not mind,” concluded Tlokotsi.
