HopeSA feeds people of Thembisa
The organisation donated 92 food parcels in the previous donation drive in partnership with Lalela project
KwaZulu-Natal-born organisation HopeSA donated food parcels in Thembisa and Ivory Park on June 1.
The organisation was established in KZN in 2001 and then branched to Gauteng in 2011. The organisation aims to feed those in need, provide health-care support and education to various communities.
The organisation has managed to donate 400 meals daily with the assistance of Thava restaurant and private sponsors. In addition, the organisation has 30 volunteers who assist in daily activities.
HopeSA founder Namritha Sivanker said she was inspired by difficult situations in communities and townships to start the organisation.
“It was difficult to see people in the streets dying of hunger, which forced me to take action. I took a journey to make a difference in communities rather than sit at home. Through this organisation, I have realised that there are much bigger things to accomplish in our communities.”
Sivanker is impressed by the support her organisation receives from communities. “We have church leaders and kind-hearted people from various townships who approached us for support. We have left a mark in different townships.”
The organisation donated 92 food parcels in the previous donation drive in partnership with Lalela project. It also donated sanitisers and masks to communities in need.
“My wish is that HopeSA continues feeding communities and those in need. In the future, it wishes to start a community skills centre which will focus on teaching and motivating, sewing classes and empowering people to use their skills to make a living.”
