Church sees regulations to open as restrictions and not solutions
FBO took a stand not to have churches opened until all regulations could be met
Faith Based Organisation (FBO) conducted a meeting at UCC Church in Thembisa on June 4 after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the reopening of religious places.
The meeting was about opening churches and their readiness in compliance with level three regulations and protocols.
Archbishop Nompumelelo Julia Gumbi said in order for churches to provide spiritual activities during the church service, one must comply with recommended social distancing and compulsory wearing of masks.
“There will be no removal of masks, no offering and not more than 50 members in attendance at a time. Ushers will be equipped with PPE and thermometers must be used.
“A register to record attendees must be provided and cleansing and proper sanitising of the place of worship will take place,” she said.
“These are the challenges ironed out by FBO which are declared as restrictions rather than solutions for churches to performing spiritual duties.
“FBO took a stand not to have churches opened until all regulations could be met. However, if there are churches that believe they have met all regulations, they are permitted to operate,” she continued.
“FBO, in its plight to have all churches comply with regulations, asked government for support on the provision of masks, sanitisers and PPE for leaders of the churches.
“FBO would like to contribute to the community to ensure the safety and health of the people while providing spiritual guidance,” she said.
