A Norkem Park resident propelled himself to new heights after being a participant in the 2011 Big Brother Africa reality show.
Tendai Namate (34), also known as Lomwe, represented Malawi, his place of birth, during the sixth season of the show, Big Brother Africa Amplified, where he finished fourth.
His stint on Big Brother Africa Amplified resulted in him being endorsed by the Malawian Ministry of Tourism.
Namate is a multi-talented radio DJ, actor and TV presenter. As part of his brand extension he decided to also venture into music.

He describes his love for music as an outlet where one can express their emotions.
“Music is a great way to work through both the dark and the light sides of our emotions. Music explains things when words fail, it speaks. It makes me think about how it relates to life and I love the beats.”
He released an EP, Double Wowza, a collaboration with his friend and former Big Brother Africa house mate Zeus from Botswana.
Namate reflected on how the collaboration came about in the Big Brother house.
“There was lot of time spent interacting with other country’s representatives. Zeus and I found we had a few things in common, mainly music. We spoke of collaborating on a mixtape and the title track came from the slang I came up with called WOWZA, which means wow but just extra.

The 34-year-old also released a song in collaboration with popular YFM dj Khathu and Nigerian artist Skek.
“The song, Bad habit, has gotten a lot of airplay on YFM and many international radio stations and the music video has been getting rotation on Channel O,” said Namate.
