Maranatha Christian School welcomed back its Grade Seven and 12 learners on June 1.
While ensuring all safety and social distancing protocols were adhered to, the staff welcomed back the learners with great enthusiasm and did all they could to make them feel settled. Each child was allocated a desk with their name on and the assurance that no other learners would be using the same work space.

After a thorough debriefing with school counsellors and psychologists on the new procedures and safety measures, classes got underway.
The following week, the Grade R to Three and Grade Six learners lined up in front of the school to go through their safety questions and scanning before heading to their allocated work spaces.
Feedback from each of the grades is that the learners are enjoying being back at school and being able to chat to their friends, albeit at a distance of two metres.
The teachers throughout all the phases have worked tirelessly to amend and adjust the timetables and class allocations of the entire school to ensure Maranatha is ready to welcome all grades back from July 6, while still adhering to the guidelines set by the Department of Health and Safety.
Two separate visits from the education and health departments as well as the police gave the school the thumbs up for its protocols and procedures, ensuring that they have learners’ best interests at heart.
