DA calls on NERSA to do forensic audit on electricity department
The DA in Ekurhuleni has started an online petition calling on the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) to conduct an immediate forensic audit of the Ekurhuleni Electricity Department in order to determine whether the metro has transgressed any of its licence requirements.
According to Mike Waters MP and DA constituency head Kempvale, the City of Ekurhuleni experiences 1 570 unplanned power outages a day.

The petition also calls for:
• All vacant posts within the electricity department to be filled immediately, as the department is operating on a 70 per cent staffing level.
• All electricians and technicians be immediately provided “tools of trade” so they can provide a service to the residents of City of Ekurhuleni.
• The Parliamentary Portfolio Committees on COGTA, Energy and Public Enterprises investigate the electricity crisis within the City of Ekurhuleni.
• Eskom, insofar as it is responsible for the supply and maintenance of electricity to the metro, fulfills its obligations fully and timeously.
