Stolen copper worth R12k found by officials in Rietvlei

The copper worth R12 000 was found not far from a patch of trees that are being threatened by alleged illegal wood choppers selling protected trees for firewood.

Following a search operation in the Rietvlei Wetlands on Soutpansberg Drive in Van Riebeeck Park on July 15, EMPD officials found stolen cables valued at R12 000.

The search formed part of continued investigations surrounding an alleged illegal lumber-jacking of environmentally protected trees in the area.The stolen cables weighing around 11kgs were booked in to the Norkem Park Police Station.
