Robbers take R50 000 cash from woman (61)

“They must’ve known I put the money in my glove compartment because the one man grabbed my car keys out of the ignition and went straight to the passenger’s side and accessed the hidden cash.”

An Allen Park resident said today (August 5) at about 1pm she was cornered by three armed suspects who allegedly took R50 000 from her after she had withdrawn the cash from her bank account.

The victim told Express on scene she went to Glen Acres Shopping Centre shortly before the incident to withdraw the money.

When she stopped at the entrance of Allen Park retirement village to have her licence disk scanned, she was approached by one of the three suspects, who pointed a firearm at her head.

“They must’ve known I put the money in my glove compartment because the one man grabbed my car keys out of the ignition and went straight to the passenger’s side and accessed the hidden cash,” she said.

EMPD officer Morné Minny, who was off-duty at the time, was the first to arrive at the scene.

He said he was driving past the retirement village and was stopped by people on Cactus Road.

According to Minny, the suspects fled in a silver Toyota Quest. No injuries were reported on scene.
