
Kempton Park SAPS was represented in 13 of the Top 30 crime stats categories, but according to the numbers, crime intervention reflected general improvement rather than lack thereof.
Kempton Park rated among the top 15 for robbery at non-residential premises (fifth), truck hijacking (second) and kidnapping (first) in South Africa’s general crime stats.
While truck hijackings reflected the most increases in Kempton Park by nine cases (39.1 per cent), car hijacking dropped by 45 cases (26.2 per cent), theft out of/from motor vehicles dropped with 255 cases (23.2 per cent) and shoplifting also decreased with 113 cases (22.3 per cent).
Express enquired from Kempton Park and Norkem Park SAPS to detail the most prominent increases/decreases.
Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Johanna Madiga said truck hijacking increased with a staggering 200 per cent and business robberies increased by 26 per cent.

Norkem Park statistics reflected decreases in the following crimes:
- Residential burglaries decreased by 39 per cent? Car hijackings showed a decrease of 19 per cent
- Theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles went down by 18 per cent
- Theft out of/from motor vehicles reflected a decrease of 10 per cent
Shoplifting dipped by six per centMadiga told Express the station recorded an overall decrease of all robbery crimes of 18 per cent.
Elaborated comment surrounding the nature of the Norkem Park SAPS stats had been requested by Express on August 5, but no detailed report was received by the time of publishing.
