BFS make arrests, vehicle recoveries and drug busts

Five suspects were arrested in Kerk Street and Bosch Avenue in Kempton Park, Welamlambo and Ehlanzeni sections in Thembisa and Magigwana Street in Daveyton for possession of drugs.

Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) members made multiple arrests, vehicle recoveries, firearm confiscations and drug busts in Kempton Park on Friday.

Members received a lookout for occupants of a gold Toyota Etios that attempted to rob a courier vehicle in Thembisa.

“Sgt Jaco Powell, with Const Thasbiso Mabaso and Const Denovin Norman, responded to information about a stolen Nissan NP300 bakkie, alleged to be in Rabie Ridge, when they spotted the Etios,” said Grant Giblin, Benoni Flying Squad communications officer.

“As they neared the location of the bakkie, the Etios with two occupants raced around a corner towards the members. Remembering the lookout for the Etios, they ordered the driver to stop.

“While the members were investigating the Etios, the Nissan bakkie came around the same corner and raced passed them.

“Leaving one member on scene with the Etios, the other two members chased the bakkie, which led to the abandoned Nissan. The driver had fled the scene. The Nissan bakkie had been reported hijacked on a Thembisa case the previous day.”

Upon their return to the Etios-scene, the members conducted a thorough search of the suspects and the vehicle leading to the recovery of an unlicensed firearm with its numbers filed off, containing five live rounds of ammunition.

“Both suspects travelling in the Etios were arrested and the firearm confiscated,” Giblin stated.

Later that day, five suspects were arrested in Kerk Street and Bosch Avenue in Kempton Park, Welamlambo and Ehlanzeni sections in Thembisa, as well as Magigwana Street in Daveyton, for possession of drugs.

Giblin said heroin and Mandrax were confiscated.

Members also recovered five vehicles and a trailer from multiple areas after being abandoned.

One such recovery was a white Toyota Tazz located in Ivory Park Extension, reported stolen in a Kempton Park case.

“The suspects, aged between 24 and 45, will appear in their local magistrate’s courts to face charges of possession of drugs, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as hijackings and theft of motor vehicles,” Giblin said.
