How Curro Serengeti is adapting to online learning and COVID-19

Curro Serengeti has aimed to help their learners give back through drives in support of the less privileged, the abused or traumatised, and animals in need of care – orchestrated by the outreach programme and the transformation and diversity committee.

When most people hear the word ‘school’, they immediately start cowering and breaking down as they try to recite Pythagoras’s theorem while explaining why the poet said the curtains were blue.

They immediately think of long and boring classes with a teacher droning on about a war from however many years ago.

They immediately think of a place that’s soul-sucking and trauma-inducing. I’d like to think that it’s a good thing that Curro learners don’t fall under ‘most people’.

We live in the 21st century. A century of change and advancements, of discoveries and progress, and of social justice and equity. The generations of children born in this century strive to aid these ideas.

I myself aim to be someone who people can rely on to help them bring change – be it on a personal or global level. I am a person who stands for the fair and equal treatment of all people in all things.

I am a person who believes in nurturing and fostering the skills and talents seen in kids now so that they can be fully developed and useful later. And the school I have chosen to be in beautifully reflects who I am.

Curro Serengeti has aimed to help their learners give back through drives in support of the less privileged, the abused or traumatised, and animals in need of care – orchestrated by the outreach programme and the transformation and diversity committee.

They’ve aimed to help us get in touch with our creativity and showcase it through yearly theatrical performances, cultural evenings, and poetry and book clubs, as well as art displays for our matric’s grand projects.

They’ve given us platforms to let our academic colours fly through Olympiads, debating, and public speaking competitions, and have given us an array of sports activities to choose from that have helped many of us discover our talents and athleticism.

But, most importantly, they gave us all these things not because they had to, but because we asked them to, and they gave us what we wanted in abundance.

My school stands for what they believed in – and that is us. Please click on the link for us to assist you with your enquiry: How can we help?
