An unknown number of armed suspects carried out a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist on the corner of West Street and Central Avenue on Monday morning at approximately 10am.
According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, who was summoned to the scene, the suspects approached the CIT vehicle in Kempton Park CBD.
One such suspect confronted the CIT guard who was making his way to the vehicle, carrying his firearm and moneybag containing the pick-up.
“The suspect robbed the guard of his firearm and the moneybag that was collected shortly before the incident occurred. They sped-off along Central Avenue and it is confirmed the moneybag was recovered empty at the golf course entrance at Avion Park,” Mtshali said.
The empty moneybag believed to be connected to the crime was discovered on the corner of Van Riebeeck and Dann roads.
“The investigation around the number of suspects is still ongoing and the information regarding the vehicle the suspects used is alleged to be a silver double cab bakkie.”
No shots fired and no injuries were recorded at the scene.
