Suspect caught after grabbing cellphone on Pretoria Road

Capt Jethro Mtshali said the incident is alleged to have occurred on Pretoria Road near Club 88 in Kempton Park CBD.

The swift response of patrolling police officers led to the arrest of a suspect during a robbery.

It is alleged a victim was requesting an e-hailing taxi when a suspect grabbed his phone and ran on Friday evening.

Capt Jethro Mtshali said the incident is alleged to have occurred on Pretoria Road near Club 88 in Kempton Park CBD.

“The victim chased the suspect and when he saw a Kempton Park SAPS Crime Prevention Unit vehicle patrolling he approached the officers and informed them of what happened, which was when one of the officers got out of the vehicle and chased the suspect,” said Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.

“The officer stopped the suspect, who was arrested on robbery charges. Thank you to all role players in the fight against crime.”
