Norkem Corner celebrates one-year anniversary with shoppers
The event also urged consumers to give back and win at the same time.
Over the weekend, Norkem Corner and its stores celebrated one year of successful business with hamper prizes, a Donut Miss Out contest, with Elevation Hub’s Feed a Family initiative.
Shoppers who spent more than R150 at any Norkem Corner store stood the chance of winning one of four birthday hampers, or choosing a lucky donut with secret spot prizes and vouchers.
The event also urged consumers to give back and win at the same time.
Around the corner, The Elevation Hub set up their stall offering for their Feed a Family scheme, in which generous shoppers had the opportunity of buying or sponsoring food packs.
One of the head volunteers, Pete Gildenhuis, told Express their food packets are super nutritionally fortified with vitamins and minerals that help to combat malnutrition.
“One food pack can provide six meals, the contents of which goes way beyond than just feeding a family of six,” Gildenhuis explained.

“We get corporate sponsors to help us buy the packs that we can give to hungry families and children. This, however, is only a small part of what we do at Elevation Hub.”
The organisation also reaches out to troubled citizens and communities in which they teach them self-sustainable methods of putting food on the table.
“We also work at promoting long-term solutions in which we provide free training to people, teaching them how to ‘grow God’s way’ on small patches of land. This pertains small-scale farming that will either feed a household or grow enough that can be sold as well.”
The Elevation Hub also helps entrepreneurs in extending training programmes on how to grow a business with the basics and building forth on foundational knowledge.
“This includes offering the input of business mentors that assist in the emotional challenges and outlooks on building one’s business from a proactive angle,” said Gildenhuis.
For jobseekers with minimal educational backgrounds, The Elevation Hub presents R100 courses which equip people to find a job or start their own business.
“With this we’ve had a tremendous success rate of clients getting employed.
“Other affordable specialised courses are available too, consisting of computer literacy, customer service, office management and so much more.”
