Caring residents host Christmas party for children

Contributions included presents, clothing, cushions, gift vouchers, sweet treats, delicious pizza, cooldrinks and newly purchased sports tracksuits.

Cherese Nel, with Debbie Koch, is spreading joy this holiday season as she hosted a Christmas party for the underprivileged children at St George’s Home recently.

She also delivered gifts to each attendee.

Contributions including presents, clothing, cushions, gift vouchers, sweet treats, delicious pizza, cooldrinks and newly purchased sports tracksuits were handed out to the children at the home.

“My giving is influenced by the potential I see in our incredible country,” said Nel, founder of the Star Fish Organisation.

“My feeling is that no matter who we are, what role we play in society, what race, age or gender we are – all of us are part of a puzzle. And when we stand together as a unified South Africa, will see the potential come to life.

“My late brother, Wayne Nel, always reached out to those in a less fortunate position. He influenced the urge of giving back to the community.”

The Express reported in April that Nel was on a mission to touch the lives of others.

“The Cavendish Glen Centre based in Glen Marais together with various members in the community have supported me and used their own resource to bless the children.”

Matthew Gray sponsored 15 bed cushions, Sonja Franca sponsored pizzas and a cash donation to buy tracksuits, Werner and Stephanie sponsored stationery hampers, centre management from Cavendish Glen Centre sponsored gift vouchers and the owner of the Dros Kempton Park, Lucio Carrozza sponsored meals, cooldrinks and a new trampoline to be sold to raise funds for the tracksuit purchases.

“I invite people to join me by investing in these young lives.”

Doreen Maigurira, programme manager at St George’s Home, was delighted with the donations that allowed the children to end their year on a positive note.

“The children really enjoyed themselves and felt special,” said Maigurira.
