Young writer encourages reading aloud
She said reading aloud to children is important because it can assist to improve their vocabulary.
Nal’ibali celebrated World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) on February 3.
The commemoration aims to draw attention to the importance of reading aloud to children in their mother tongue.
GCN had a chat with award-winning young writer Stacey Fru about the importance of reading, and her books.
The young writer published her first book at the age of seven and has written five books so far.
She said reading aloud to children is important because it can assist to improve their vocabulary.
“I was encouraged to read from a young age and that helped me to improve my vocabulary and improve my general knowledge.”

She said reading aloud to children and encouraging them to read on their own should not be a boring experience.
“Parents and educators should look for fun ways around books that will excite children.
“A variety of fun pictures and colours will go a long way and make sure little ones use their imagination,” said Stacey.
She said when writing her books she always thinks of how a child would want to see it when reading the book.
“As a child author, I have written all my books with a child’s imagination,” said the young writer.
She always observes how children see the world put into words.
“Observation and curiosity inspire my books. I write about what I see daily,” said Stacey.
She encouraged parents to not only read for the children but to also encourage them to use their imagination.
The five books she has written are Smelly Cats, Bob and the Snake, Smelly Cats on Vacation, Where is Tammy and Tim’s Answer.
