Sir Pierre’s 2020 matrics shine

Two learners at Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High School received seven and six distinctions respectively.

Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High School enjoyed great results for its 2020 matric exams despite the challenges experienced as a result of the pandemic. The school’s principal, Margaret Wrigley, acknowledged the learners’ hard work.

“First of all, I want to congratulate our matrics of 2020. Last year’s conditions were unprecedented and I am so proud of those of you who stepped up, working consistently and achieving. You are an example of this year’s group,” said Wrigley.

William Mncube and Catherine Moatlhodi were among the school’s top achievers. Mncube obtained seven distinctions in mathematics, physical sciences, life orientation, music, accounting, life sciences and Afrikaans.

“Mncube is a dedicated learner who excelled in all subjects from his primary school days. He was raised by a single mother after the loss of his dad when he was an infant. His academic record has always been excellent even though he had to be the protective figure to his mom and sister,” explained Wrigley.

Moathlodi obtained six distinctions in Afrikaans, mathematics, life orientation, business studies, economics and music. “Moatlhodi started attending school at Sir Pierre van Ryneveld High School in 2016. She was part of public speaking in 2017. She participated in various music eisteddfod festivals.”

She plans to study a BCom in accounting sciences. “Matrics of 2021, take up the challenge to better these results. Work hard and consistently and remember our school’s motto is ‘achieve’,” said Wrigley.
