BFS arrests five suspects during the weekend

One of the suspects was arrested in Kempton Park where a large quantity of drugs was confiscated.

Five suspects were arrested by the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) in Kempton Park, Benoni and Tsakani over the weekend.

In further policing, an abandoned gold Toyota Fortuner was recovered on the R21 South, after the Engen 1-Stop, which was reported stolen in Garsfontein.

“One of the suspects was arrested on Kerk Street, Kempton Park, when members followed up on information,” said WO Grant Giblin, Benoni Flying Squad’s communications officer. “A large number of drugs, including Mandrax, rock and Cat (cocaine) were confiscated on the scene. “Another suspect was arrested on the corner of 3rd Avenue and 5th Street, in Northmead Benoni, after allegedly being found in possession of Crystal Methamphetamine.”

Giblin also said an off-duty officer arrested one suspect in Vredendale, Tsakani after a cellphone was robbed. The cellphone was recovered and returned to the lawful owner.

While responding to a complaint of robbery and hijacking on the R24 East at Barbara Road off-ramp, officers managed to arrest two suspects.

“It is alleged that three suspects were pretending to be police officers and took cellphones, cash and personal documents from a complainant. The third suspect fled the scene in a white Toyota Corolla,” said Giblin.

“The suspects, aged between 22 and 66 years, will face charges of possession of drugs, dealing in drugs and common robbery. Investigation continues in all cases.”
