SAPS members hunt wanted suspects

Several arrests made during the Okae Molao Operation.

SAPS members conducted an operation in Thembisa from March 31 to April 2 to trace wanted suspects.

According to Capt Neldah Segobela, the Ekurhuleni District SAPS communications officer, 334 suspects were arrested.

“Suspects arrested included 140 for assault, 48 for theft, 25 for domestic violence, 25 for malicious damage to property, 12 for armed robbery, 10 for house burglary, and seven for the possession of drugs.

“Other suspects were arrested on charges of rape, intimidation, murder, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of the stolen property, and hijacked vehicles.

“The team also confiscated a firearm and ammunition during a roadblock on the R562.”

Segobela said five shebeens were shut down in Thembisa and owners were subjected to pay fines to the value of R9 000.
Two vehicles were also impounded during the operation.

“In addition, those who contravened the Road Traffic Act were liable to pay fines, which totaled R49 8000,” said Segobela.

Ekurhuleni district commissioner, Maj Gen Anna Mateisi, acknowledged the effort made by members in making the arrests.
