#DignityForAllDrive collects much-need care products
The drive helped provide teenage girls and young women in the community with sanitary pads.
#DignityForAll Drive, initiated by the Miss Thembisa pageant, donated sanitary pads to Tshepang Care Centre on April 17 to allow learners to continue their education without hygiene hazards, discomfort, embarrassment or loss of dignity.
Tokollo Bapela (23), the administrator and pageant coordinator, said that the number of women with access to sanitary towels has drastically fallen as a result of Covid-19.
“Poor menstrual hygiene can lead to reproductive and urinary fungal and bacterial infections. Hepatitis B and cervical cancer are also risks.”
The pageant used its candidates to conduct the donation drives to tackle the lack of access for women. As part of giving back to the community, the pageant organised the #DignityForAll Drive with the current semi-finalists of 2021.

The drive included the collection of personal care and hygiene products that were distributed at Tshepang Care Centre.
“We have seen the impact that Covid-19 had in our community. It perpetuated challenges that already existed. Some people do not have access to personal care products and this is where our #DignityForAll Drive comes in to make a difference. We believe every person has a right to dignity. This initiative is also part of our plan to alleviate challenges that our community members are facing,” said Bapela.
The pageant aims to empower women and motivate them to give back to the community.
“We encourage them to be proactive leaders and remain focused while achieving their dreams. Amidst the pandemic, we have been able to assist our community through different initiatives, such as clothing, stationery and book drives,” said Bapela.
