Busi Nkosi has touched many lives through her organisation, Kukhanya-Phakade NPO.
Terenure resident Busisiwe Nkosi (35) is passionate about helping others.
Nkosi has touched many lives through her organisation, Kukhanya-Phakade NPO.
The NPO was established in January to serve the surrounding community and beyond Ekurhuleni.
“It has always been my goal to establish an organisation that will assist the vulnerable and poor,” said Nkosi.
“The most affected people in society are mostly children, since their upbringing depends on an adult. These little people are the future of tomorrow. If we can build a strong foundation for their tomorrow by starting today, a brighter future is inevitable.

“Kukhanya-Phakade intends to bring back the lost star, which is hope in people’s lives. Many people are suffering, especially during the pandemic.”
Nkosi told Express the self-funded organisation’s goals include empowering children and youth with educational programmes and sports and recreation.
“I want to do more outreach programmes, raise funds and donations for various causes to assist those in need,” expressed Nkosi.
“Through the organisation, I want to help vulnerable women and men affected by gender-based violence (GBV), adult life coaching and organise awareness programmes.”
Though the organisation is still in its infant stages, it has already placed its prints on various charity work.
“I have engaged in various community projects as an individual whereby we contribute ingredients to a soup kitchen, raising funds to support a course, feeding the homeless, sanitary pads donations for shelters, community patrolling and more.
“I have since volunteered to assist Tshegofatsa Rona Welfare, which is a shelter for GBV survivors and vulnerable orphans based in Kempton Park. I have donated groceries and sanitary pads, offering educational programmes to the organisation. I have been on several radio stations such as Hope Alive radio, Power FM and Voice of Tembisa FM to educate and create awareness on GBV and to bring hope to the community.
“I have also volunteered with MES Kempton Park. I work as a general worker by offering my time and skills, such as assisting with the Winter Drive donations by collecting warm clothes and shoes for men living in the streets, donations for the soup kitchen and offering the time to serve the homeless during the handouts. MES has various projects and requires funds for paying a bond on their property, shelter cleaning and renovating.”
When asked how she keeps the fire for her passion to help burning, the mother of three said, “I want to be part of the change I want to see in the future. A lot has happened and the poor are getting poorer. I want to assist by eradicating poverty and offer some sort of manpower where possible with the little I have. In these difficult times, we need to do assist where we can with what we have.”
