Assist local artist to pursue his animation dream

"I admire my father's opinion and criticism. He knows how to motivate me to do better,” Vusi Qwabe said.

Vusi Qwabe is grateful for the assistance he has received thus far, all thanks to his long-time gymnastic friend, Zama Mofokeng, who helped him uncover his potential.

The 26-year-old Makholong resident acknowledges Zama Mofokeng for assisting him to discover his drawing abilities, as well as directing his emphasis to art.

Qwabe recognised his potential for sketching after dedicating his time to watching cartoons. He subsequently nurtured his talent by practising sketching.

The spontaneous artist told Thembisan previously he was looking forward to offering free drawing classes to youngsters in the residential area.

Despite his idea being a success, he is still looking for new ways to advance his career, and starting an animated show was one of them.

“The cartoon show will be done digitally; I will utilise a computer to bring the characters to life,” Qwabe said.

“The show will be multilingual. It consists of characters made up primarily of people from the neighbourhood. I will copy their appearances using illumination drawing and their voices for sound.”

According to Qwabe, the show’s plot will focus on the results of drug misuse in the Thembisan community, as well as ways for addressing drug-related consequences among young people.

“The plot revolves around a young boy who flees from home due to drug addiction, specifically nyaope. I don’t want to give too much away about the plot, I believe with the community’s assistance, it will undoubtedly be a success.”

Qwabe pleads with the Thembisan community to assist him in gathering funds to support his talent and pursue his dreams.

With his clear vision and enthusiastic energy for his career, he aspires to make his parents proud especially his father whom he admires dearly.

“The first person to view my drawings is always my father. I admire his opinion, his criticism is not harsh and he knows how to motivate me to do better,” Qwabe concluded.
