Chef Regis of Kempton Park helps breaks world record for a good cause
“The Cooking For Dreams event was wonderful it was inspiring to see so many South Africans come together in support of our dream children and for the exciting moment to break a Guinness World Record,"
The atmosphere was jubilant at Emperors Palace and the Discovery Healthy Food Studio when it was announced that SA had broken the Guinness World Record’s title for the most people cooking simultaneously online.
On June 24 over 2 000 South Africans, including Kempton Park and Edenvale residents, joined musician J’Something and celebrity chef David Higg in an attempt to break the record and raise funds for the Reach For A Dream Foundation. The attempt was part of The Reach For A Dream Foundation’s Cooking For Dreams fund-raising initiative.
It was officially announced by the Guinness World Records adjudicator, Sophia Greenacher in the UK, that Reach For A Dream had succeeded in breaking the Guinness World Record’s title for the most people cooking simultaneously online on the night.

The intent behind the Cooking For Dreams event and Guinness World Record title was to raise funds for the foundation.
It exceeded in this and more, mapping South Africa as the second country to hold the Guinness World Record’s title.
The previous attempt was held earlier this year in the UK, totalling 532 people cooking online.
“The Cooking For Dreams event was wonderful. It was inspiring to see so many South Africans come together in support of our dream children and for the exciting moment to break a Guinness World Record,” said Julia Sotirianakos, Reach For A Dream CEO.
The Cooking For Dream’s participants were in good hands as My Kitchen Rules chefs reunited to host the event and show the participants, who watched the chefs via Microsoft Teams, how to make a delicious pea curry.
Participants purchased their Cooking For Dreams box for R350 from the event website www.cookingfordreams.org.za and received a box filled with Woolworths ingredients to make the dish.
J’Something, who is personally passionate about the work Reach For A Dream, shared: “We did it. We dreamt about doing this and not only have we realised our dream but we have helped Reach For A Dream realise so many more dreams for our children. I am beaming with pride right now.”
“We honestly couldn’t have done it without our partners, Discovery Vitality, DHL and Woolworths. Our broadcast partners Eventcast and Peermont who gave their all to get the production underway was incredible,” said Sotirianakos.
“It was an absolute highlight to see how many people got involved in this initiative, obviously the cherry on top was to get the Guinness World Record,” said Cooking For Dreams host, David Higgs
“Reach for a Dream is an incredible cause, and sometimes we think we are going through hard times, especially during this pandemic, but imagine what it’s like for young children with life-threatening diseases. A lot needs to sink in, but it’s been a very special day,” said David.
