Bringing those in need hope in a jar

Chelldrie's modeling career started when she was only two years old with the Vogue Cat Walk Models SA.

Chelldrie Swanepoel’s outgoing personality has put her in the spotlight, all thanks to the compassion she has for others.

The nine-year-old Terenure resident is most passionate about giving back to her community and those in need.

Chelldrie’s mother, Marchell, said she recognised Chelldrie’s modelling aptitude when she was only two years old. Since then, her modelling career has blossomed along with her charisma and empathy for others.

“Her modelling career began with Vogue Cat Walk Models SA.She has since been scouted by other modelling agencies and companies for which she is an ambassador. I am grateful to her modelling coach, Chantel Swart, who works closely with her to help improve her modelling skills,” Marchell said.

As described by her mother, the Grade Three learner from Laerskool Impala is an energetic, outgoing young girl who will stop at nothing to pursue her passions.

From 2018 to 2019 she competed in a national supermodel competition. She was also named ambassador for Kempton Park’s Mimmos and RocoMammas in 2019.

Chelldrie and her mother have started a charity initiative known as The Jar of Hope, where they donate jars loaded with soup mix to their local schools and communities.

“We launched the charity drive in 2018, on Mandela Day, by making soup and distributing it to the homeless. While we were on the road, one young lady asked if we had any more soup for her and her family since they were starving. Unfortunately, we didn’t have anything to give because the soup had run out. Chelldrie wept and that is when I discovered she has a heart for giving back to the community, and that’s how the project began. That day, we were able to feed 30 people,” Marchell reminisced.

The donated jars are filled soup mix contain split peas, long grain rice and green, red, black and yellow lentils. The recipients boil the soup and cook it on the stove. The soup is filling and it takes little time to prepare.

The filled jars were previously donated to Laerskool Impala, Laerskool Kreft Primary, Frank Mynhardt Care Centre and underprivileged residents of Terenure, Birch Acres and Germiston.

When asked where she gets her drive, Chelldrie stated, “My parents motivate me to assist those who are in need. I love giving back to my community.”

Although the drive has been badly affected by the pandemic, Chelldrie and Marchell still expressed their gratitude to their family for their support and Chelldrie’s friends, especially those who lend a hand by collecting empty coffee jars, which will be used to be filled with the soup mix.
