MES Kempton Park to donate 67 blankets to commemorate Mandela Day

The organisation received 67 blankets from the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day campaign to donate to the less fortunate.

Sixty-seven blankets were donated to MES Kempton Park, which will be distributed to the less fortunate on July 16.

This follows the efforts of the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day campaign. The organisation had to put some of its activities for Mandela Day on hold because of the rising Covid-19 infections in Gauteng.

According to Luwanda Conco, the fund-raising and marketing assistant, the organisation will not hold a formal meeting, but beneficiaries will come one at a time to pick up a blanket.

“We are grateful for the blankets donated by the 67 Blankets for Mandela Day initiative. It will have an impact on the lives of those who are homeless.

“We must be the change. We can offer them strength and provide them with blankets, warm clothing and warm meals.

“We encourage the residents to join us in making a difference in the lives of those who have already suffered greatly. At MES Kempton Park, Mandela Day is one of our key campaigns and missing the opportunity to celebrate it just would not feel right,” said Conco.

“Also as part of our Mandela Day celebrations, we will be launching an online campaign where we will encourage our donors to make a financial donation. The idea behind this campaign is to get at least 9 000 people to make a once-off donation of R100, which will add up to R900 000. These funds will contribute towards our shelter expansion plans, which are already in motion,” said Conco.
