Local company helps the community during unrest

“We are done for now but we are ready to go again if it’s required of us.”

During the recent unrest, many heroes were identified.

From people donating food parcels to the pilots flying these to KwaZulu-Natal.

Father and son Apie and Fredrick Kotze, owners of Productive Hire and Plant Construction in Kempton Park, were part of this group who flew the supplies to people in need.

Fredrick flew all the flights with his Cessna Caravan with the help of his friend Grant Timms.

When asked why they assisted, Fredrick said, “I was uncomfortable at times during the flight with the conditions in the air but I pushed through because on the ground people were depending on us.

“If I ever have to be in the same situation I would like to think someone would do the same for me.”

During the Ubuntu flight, they did a total of seven flights to various airports, transporting a total of a six-and-a-half ton of cargo.

The main cargo was food parcels as well as diapers and baby formula.

They also managed to transport 20 people and three dogs back to Johannesburg.

“We are done for now, but we are ready to go again if it’s required,” said Fredrick.
