Local soccer player driven by the support of residents
Rabatho urges the community to continue offering its support to other up-and-coming local soccer players to help keep them motivated.
Katlego Rabatho, commonly known as ‘Sniper’, aspires to win multiple awards, like his inspirational soccer icon from Ivory Park Themba Zwane.
The 21-year-old from Lekaneng Section began playing soccer at the age of seven and is now working on new strategies to help him advance his soccer skills and enable him to play in the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL).
“Despite the fact that soccer is a difficult sport, I enjoy being on the field.
“I believe that playing soccer is a family thing. My father and brother, Grade Rabatho, used to play soccer as well and I have similar skills as them,” Rabatho said.
The full-time soccer player has participated in various tournaments including the well-known Philly’s Game Tournament in Thembisa, Lerato Lamola Winter Games and the Shumba Football

Development, which he played for in 2017.
Rabatho is grateful for the words of encouragement and support he has received from his family and mostly the Thembisa community.
He urged the residents to continue offering their support to other up-and-coming local soccer players to help them remain motivated.
“Due to the support I am receiving from my community, I am always trying to improve. Every opportunity I seize.”
Rabatho’s passion and the hard work he invests in football has led to him being selected to play as an attacking midfielder and left winger for the Mbombela City Lads in the 2021 ABC Motsepe League in Mpumalanga.
He regards the opportunity as a privilege that will also help him improve his background and make his community proud while being on the lookout for other opportunities that may arise.
“I am confident that my profession will allow me to put food on the table in the future. I do not think there is any use in pursuing a career that one will eventually be weary of; soccer is not a profession but a calling. Therefore, aim to be known in the industry and have young people look up to me, especially those from townships.
“Discipline, commitment and dedication are likely to open doors of success for those who work hard.”
