Women lead Operation Basadi

It was also during this operation that SAPS members visited illegal liquor facilities to create awareness of the violence that often stems from the abuse of alcohol.

Kempton Park SAPS hosted a gender-based violence (GBV) and drug abuse awareness campaign last week.

The campaign, called Operation Basadi, kicked off in Kempton Park CBD on August 5, where 40 officers, mostly women, were deployed under the command of Col Motsatsi Lesomo.

The operation saw police officers hand out pamphlets to members of the public, informing them about GBV and the dangers of drug abuse.

It was also during this operation that SAPS members visited illegal liquor facilities to create awareness of the violence that often stems from the abuse of alcohol.

The goal of the operation was to increase visible policing in sectors that have become crime hot spots.

When asked what words of inspiration she could offer young women who want to join the SAPS, Lesomo said, “The SAPS is pro-women and as seen during Operation Basadi, women are given a chance to lead.”

Spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS Capt Jethro Mtshali said the operation will continue throughout August.
