Adopt a School Foundation to host a Covid-19 relief campaign for schools

The foundation supports 622 schools across the country through its Whole School Development programme, which includes school leadership, infrastructure, curriculum and social welfare.

The Adopt-a-School Foundation (AAS), a partner entity of the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation, is launching a Covid-19 relief effort to assist schools across the country.
The programme attempts to remove major gaps in education that obstruct teaching and learning.
The campaign interventions include sanitation, digitalisation of classrooms, the provision of infrastructure and food security.
The global pandemic having has had an impact on communities all across the world, creating new social and economic challenges while exacerbating old ones.
Covid-19 has altered the world as we know it, with many industries scrambling to adjust their systems and operations to the new normal. This is also true in the field of education.
The pandemic has uncovered and deepened the depths of our school’s socio-economic disparities.
Because remote learning is not currently an option, students from marginalised schools are cut off during extended school closures.
Furthermore, schools face overcrowding and sanitary issues, making it impossible to create a safe learning environment in the midst of the pandemic.
According to the chief executive officer of AAS, Steven Lebere, the foundation supports 622 schools across the country through its Whole School Development programme, which includes school leadership, infrastructure, curriculum and social welfare.
“The Covid-19 pandemic on the other hand, has posed significant obstacles in many marginalised communities.
“The foundation has devised a hygienic strategy and we need to raise sufficient funds to address the gaps left by Covid-19 in schools. “We are appealing to corporate South Africa to join us in our efforts by donating to our broad list of Covid-19 relief programmes,” Lebere said.
He also added by saying that teaching and learning will be able to continue as a result of the contribution and all pledges are also appreciated because they will enable the foundation to execute additional programmes.
“Since 2002, we have invested over a billion rand in education with the aid of our partners and funders, benefiting over a million people. As a result, we support corporate South Africa and are enthusiastic about this effort.
“We believe that the only way to combat the effects of Covid-19 in schools and ensure that all students have access to education during this tough time is to work together.”
